TEXAS FLOOD INSURANCE – FLOOD ZONE INFORMATION FEMA is a division of the US Department of Homeland Security. They have made maps that show the flood zone for most areas. The flood zones with minimal to moderate risk of flooding are B, C, and X. If your property is located in one of these areas you can probably qualify for a lower premium for your flood insurance. (Provided that your property is in a participating community.) An elevation certificate is not required for NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) insurance in these zones. If you have a mortgage on a property in these zones, your lender will probably not require that you have a flood policy. Being in a preferred zone does not indicate that you are not at risk for flood damage. In fact thousands of properties in B, C, and X zones have had severe flooding. D – These are unstudied areas where flood hazards are undetermined but flooding is possible. As with all other zones we suggest getting flood coverage in this zone. V - Costal areas where you have a risk of flood from rising water and a risk from storm hazards. The base flood elevation is not determined for these areas. VE & V1-V30 – Same as V but base flood elevations are shown within these zones. A - SFHA's (Special Flood Hazard Areas) subject to inundation by the 100-year flood. Because detailed hydraulic analyses have not been performed, no base flood elevations or depths are shown. AE & A1-A30 – Same as A, but base flood elevations are shown within these zones. AH - SFHA's subject to inundation by 100-year shallow flooding (usually areas of ponding) where average depths are between one and three feet. Base flood elevations derived from detailed hydraulic analyses are shown within these zones. AO - SFHA's subject to inundation by 100-year shallow flooding (usually sheet flow on sloping terrain) where average depths are between one and three feet. Average flood depths derived from detailed hydraulic analyses are shown within these zones. A99 - SFHA's subject to inundation by the 100-year flood, which will be protected by a federal flood protection system when construction has reached specified statutory progress toward completion. No base flood elevations are shown for this zone. If you do not know your flood zone you can call us or submit a quote request form and we will get a zone determination for you at no cost. (Texas only, in rare cases our software may not be able to find your zone.) |
