TEXAS FLOOD INSURANCE COVERAGE INFORMATION
Flood insurance policies generally are designed
to cover damage to your property and possessions that result from
rising water. Your policy book will have coverage details and
limitations. Here is some general information about coverage.
Building Property
- The insured building, foundation, and
attached garage.
- The home or building electrical and
plumbing systems.
- Central heating and AC equipment and
water heaters.
- Refrigerator and built-in appliances.
- Permanently installed carpeting over
unfinished flooring
- Permanently installed paneling,
wallboard, window blinds, and cabinets.
- Detached garages (up to 10 percent of
Building Property coverage)
- Debris removal where debris is the result
of covered damage.
Personal Contents Property
- Personal belongings, such as clothing,
furniture, and electronic equipment
- Portable and window AC units, washers,
dryers, and freezers including the food in them.
- Carpets that are not included in building
coverage.
- Certain valuable items such as original
artwork and furs (up to $2,500)
Property That Is Not Covered:
- Damage caused by moisture, mildew, or
mold that could have been avoided by the property owner.
- Cash, stock certificates, precious
metals, and valuable papers.
- Property and belongings outside of an
insured building such as trees, plants, wells, septic systems,
walks, decks, patios, fences, seawalls, hot tubs, and swimming
pools.
- Living expenses such as temporary housing
(loss of use).
- Financial losses caused by business
interruption or loss of use of insured property.
- Most self-propelled vehicles (for example
cars).
Houston flood insurance coverage is limited in basements. It's also
limited in areas below the lowest elevated floor, depending on the
flood zone and date of construction. Other conditions and
